THE CHIME TRIBE TYPE

The first thought to have when you consider Chime Tribe is of a loud, clear, powerful, resounding and lasting sustained sound, pitch or note. The Chime Tribe exemplifies the qualities of loud, clear, encompassing purpose. Chime is a quality that arises out of certain pre-conditions, and without the presence of those pre-conditions, Chime can feel and seem lost, mousey, indecisive. The pre-conditions are an organized, well-attended, clearly defined cause. Thus, Chime isn’t so much the organizer or establisher of causes, but rather the call to arms that brings something that has already gotten off the ground into a state of popularity. Chime is the gun that starts the race, the horn that announces the breaks in a game, the siren of an ambulance or firetruck, and the roar of an appreciative crowd.
The second notion that is appropriate to think with regard to Chime Tribe is oscillation. Though the loud sound that is the hallmark of the Chime Tribe is sustained by nature, the sound itself is made up of an oscillation. Unfortunately, in practice, Chimes can represent massive oscillation, vacillation and fickleness. Just as Chime types can be the clarion call that brings people to a cause, they can be the child who cried wolf once too often. Many people know of someone who’s always working for some cause, lauding the benefits of some charity, and drumming up interest for some event. While they can be fun, such people are often described as mysteries; always up to something, always supporting something. Chimes are here to specify and express clearly, and when their affiliations can’t be expressed by everyone that knows them, they haven’t fully manifested their purpose, yet.
Chime surfs a wave of popular support. If Chime is sounding a tone alone it is most likely because everyone else has only recently left. Rarely is Chime the first lone soul with a megaphone. Thus, Chime is an inherently social Tribe, making friends easily and well, and often much liked. Contrarily, when Chime chooses sides, it can make bitter enemies of those who are on another team or side. Chime is not naturally hospitable to opposition or even indecisiveness.
Chime harmonizes with all three previous Tribes: it polarizes when it picks sides; it drives and navigates when it sounds the alarm; and it centers in order to choose its causes. However, it is relatively unable to do more than one harmonic at any time. Chime is the “poor Johnny One Note” of the Tribes. It “sings out with gusto, and just overwhelms all the crowd,” but ultimately does not naturally produce melodious flow or function in harmony with opposing philosophies. Chime doesn’t blend in.
